About Begin to Become psychology

A space to begin, grow and become

At Begin to Become Psychology, you can begin exactly where you are. Therapy offers the opportunity to better understand yourself, make sense of the patterns that shape your life, and create meaningful, lasting change.

Our vision

Supporting individuals to live in alignment with who they truly are

Our vision is for individuals to have the insight, resilience and self-trust to navigate life with confidence and live in alignment with who they truly are.
We believe meaningful change begins with understanding yourself more deeply. Therapy provides the space to explore your experiences, recognise patterns, build on your strengths, and move towards a life that feels more authentic and aligned with who you are.

Our mission

At Begin to Become Psychology, our mission is to support individuals to begin where they are, to show up without judgement, explore their thoughts, feelings and patterns, and work towards becoming their fullest, most authentic selves.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Dr Shauna Byrne

PhD (Clinical Psychology), University of Technology Sydney

Clinical Psychologist

Shauna is a Clinical Psychologist and the founder of Begin to Become. She completed her PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Technology Sydney, with doctoral research focused on male adolescent eating disorders. This background informs both the depth of her eating disorder work and her understanding of how these difficulties present across age groups and genders.
Since 2019, Shauna has worked in private practice settings supporting adolescents and adults with eating disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, perfectionism, relationship difficulties, and self-esteem concerns. From 2023, she has also been part of multidisciplinary treating teams in an inpatient mental health setting, working across acute mental health and dedicated eating disorder wards with complex, high-acuity presentations.
Shauna has advanced training in CBT, ACT, Schema Therapy, EMDR, CBT-E and Family-Based Therapy (Maudsley Model). She draws on whichever approaches are most relevant to each person, combining evidence-based methods with a warm and down-to-earth style.
Her experience across both outpatient and inpatient settings gives her a grounded understanding of how mental health difficulties can present at different levels of severity, and informs a thoughtful, person-centred approach to treatment planning across the range of concerns she works with.
